"....... for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust" Psalm 103:14

The A - Z of An Eclectic Music Collection: F......

..... is for Fleetwood Mac & Frank Sinatra
Firstly, Fleetwood Mac, of course! Come on, I'm a child of the 60s and 70s, there was never any doubt. We all wanted to BE Stevie Nicks, with her flowing tresses and hippie dresses, and as Wikipedia puts it "her distinctive voice, mystical stage persona and poetic, symbolic lyrics". Yup.

That sing-along factor is strong in me. Even if I wouldn't normally love the song, the fact that I know all the lyrics makes it so easy to love it more. Songs like "Go Your Own Way", "Don't Stop" and "Rhiannon" (where Stevie is at her broodiest, hippie-est, "mystical" best, swaying dress and hair as she sings about.......... a witch - apparently). But easily my favourite Fleetwood Mac song, and the one to which I will always sing along loudly, is "Say You Love Me", sung not by Stevie Nicks, but the equally talented Christine McVie.

Frank Sinatra. Yes, really. Again, with my developing love of jazz over the last little while, how could I go past Ol' Blue Eyes and his smooth, crooning sounds? From "I Could Have Danced all Night" to "Fly Me to the Moon", what's not to love?

One of my most memorable experiences of Frank was standing on Las Vegas Boulevard, outside the Bellagio Hotel/Casino, watching the awe-inspiring dancing water fountains do their thing to the sounds of Frank Sinatra singing "Come Fly With Me". Amazing!

Yep, Frank is a true classic, and has definitely earned his place in my music library.

  1. Fleetwood Mac and their Rumours album was the soundtrack to my teenage lovelife Sue - it encompassed at least two boyfriends and brings back so many memories! I still love it and I think I know the words to every single song!
