The A - Z of An Eclectic Music Collection: K......

..... is for Keith Green & k. d. lang
Like Amy Grant, Keith Green's music takes me back to my days as a brand new Christian, and my days of playing cassette tapes in my car. Such unfamiliar concepts and lyrics, but I was intrigued and so moved by the truth of God's love for me. Many years later I read "No Compromise", the story of Keith's short life written by his wife, Melody, and was really encouraged by his love for God. That's what comes out most in his songs I think. My favourite album has always been "Songs for the Shepherd", but the first song I ever heard was "Your love broke through" and it truly spoke to my heart at that time.

Ah, the cruisy sounds of k.d. lang. So many k.d. songs grace my library, I almost don't know where to start. The first one I ever heard was "Constant Craving", and when my boys were little they used to sing along - who knows what they thought they were singing, it sounded near enough though, and they were enjoying themselves a lot (as were we as we laughed and listened to their "sounds about right" attempts at unfamiliar lyrics).

I'd say that one of my favourite k.d. lang songs would have to be "Crying", her lovely duo with Roy Orbison. But the one that tops my list is definitely the haunting version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah". It's truly beautiful.

  1. I love both of these - I had a cassette of Keith Green back when I was in my late teens and his lyrics really spoke to my heart. KD Lang has a beautiful voice and I love her Hallelujah version too. BTW I sent you an email last night x

    1. Leanne I think we must have spent our 20s in very similar Christian circles!
