The A - Z of An Eclectic Music Collection: Q......

..... is for Queen (and that's that). Yes, Q was always going to be a challenge.

I have to confess, these days I'm not really a big fan of Queen, and especially not many of their later offerings, but I do still have some of their music in my collection, mainly on vinyl and CD and not so much in iTunes these days. This band was huge during my teenage years though, and I've done my fair share of dancing and singing along to their highly identifiable sound, which resulted mostly from Freddie Mercury's unique vocals, though I loved Brian May's amazing guitar sound as much if not more.

Of course Queen has released some undeniable classics that will remain part of the fabric of my younger years - "We Will Rock You", "Another One Bites the Dust", "I Want it All" and "You're My Best Friend". But there's really no going past the most well-known, arguably a rock/pop classic, an epic track and probably known the world over (except that most of us had no clue about the lyrics - neither what they said nor what they meant - for much of the time that we were singing along). Of course, "Bohemian Rhapsody".

So Q didn't take long at all, and I'm pretty sure there are no others that I can pick, not in my vinyl, my tapes or my CD collection. I did a quick search for other possible Q bands, and came up with Queens of the Stone Age, had a quick listen, and thought "Yep, that's why they're not in my collection"!

So that's Q done and dusted. Moving right along now to R tomorrow!

  1. Oh gosh - Bohemian Rhapsody - who could not love that song? And all the renditions of it that people have come up with over the years. My husband was a huge Queen fan back when I met him and (he was a radio DJ) he played You're My Best Friend for me on the radio back in our dating days - won my heart with that one *sigh*
