The A - Z of An Eclectic Music Collection: U......

..... is for U2 & Union of Sound

At first I thought U2 would be it for the "ewes", but then I remembered Union of Sound. They'll come later.

Now to U2. Of course. Their early stuff is legendary, songs like "Sunday Bloody Sunday", "New Year's Day", "The Unforgettable Fire" and "Pride (in the name of love)". They are so identifiable thanks to "The Edge" (cool name) and his unique guitar style, and their otherwise classic, classic U2 sound. I enjoy their later offerings too, such as "Elevation", "Vertigo", "Where the Streets Have No Name", "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For", "With or Without you" and "Desire".

But arguably this would be my favourite U2 track, "All I Want is You" from 1989.

When I was a teenager, the UK band 10CC released their lovely track "I'm Not in Love", which I quite liked at the time. Years later, I discovered an even lovelier version by Union of Sound. who released an album featuring all the songs from the movie "Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason", even though the movie had actually featured the 10CC track. However, I liked the Union of Sound rendition more than the original. Sadly, though, it can't be found (by me at least) on YouTube, so the original track by 10CC will have to suffice. They don't belong anywhere from A - Z anyway, so I think I can be forgiven for popping them in here at the letter U! (and if you find the Union of Sound one let me know!)

  1. I was wondering who you'd pick for "U" and you didn't let me down - my husband and I are singing I'm not in love to the clip you've added while I type this - memories.....
