"....... for he knows how we are formed, he remembers that we are dust" Psalm 103:14

The A - Z of An Eclectic Music Collection: Z......

..... is for ZZ Top (and that's about it).

I couldn't say ZZ Top is one of my favourite bands, but they do hold several places on my "great driving songs" playlist. I know I've mentioned this playlist before, so let me elaborate.

When you're heading off on a road trip, you need music that builds the anticipation and excitement for what's to come, that gives you a sense of freedom from the daily grind, that makes you feel as if the wind is in your hair (even if it isn't). Songs you can play loudly and sing along to at the top of your voice, as you head off down the freeway (within the speed limit, of course).

Tracks like ZZ Top's "Gimme All Your Lovin'", "Sharp Dressed Man" and "Legs". These all belong nicely on said playlist, alongside Boston's "More Than a Feeling", Fleetwood Mac's "Don't Stop", The Doobie Brothers' "Long Train Runnin'" and Creedence Clearwater Revival's "I Heard it Through the Grapevine", to name just a few.

Now my beloved husband, with whom I'm usually heading off on road trips, is not such a big fan of my playlist, but he does love it when I sing along at the top of my voice, and he's prepared to tolerate my choices for that joy alone. Sometimes he even sings along too, and that's always such fun. We've just planned a road trip from the Gold Coast in Queensland, down the north coast of New South Wales to Sydney for later this year, so I think my playlist might be coming along for the ride!

So with that pending road trip in mind, my ZZ Top pick for now is "Sharp Dressed Man".

And that's a wrap!! I can hardly believe I've made it to the end of the A - Z challenge for April without chickening out partway through. Writing 26 posts in one month is not something I'd want to do on a regular basis, but it's been heaps of fun. Thank you if you bothered to read (and listen) right to the end, and to those who have interacted with me throughout this month, I look forward to reading more of your blog posts now that we're all returning to "normal" (whatever that may be).

Phew! Roll on May!!

  3. We made it! Good on you for leaping in and following through to the end - you are probably as exhausted by it as I am - but there is a sense of satisfaction too isn't there. Nice to finish with ZZ Top - I'm not sure if you've ever heard of Duck Dynasty but we loved the show and it opened with Sharp Dressed Man - here's a little overview with the chorus at the end: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhiOX9kD3Sg
